Dataface Tasks

UI Design and Frontend Dev

Dataface Lead Product Designer (IC7)

About the Role

At Fivetran, our mission is simple: make access to data as easy and reliable as electricity. We help businesses power decisions with ready-to-query data: no engineering, no maintenance, no hassle.

We are looking for a strategic player-coach: a Lead Product Designer who is ready to tackle complex UX challenges and elevate the product to a new level. This role is for someone excited to dive deep into intricate design problems, raise the bar for design quality, and design and build a complex interface for working with data.

You will shape the workflows that empower technical users to seamlessly explore and understand their data. You will dig into user needs, collaborate closely with product and engineering on product strategy, and help foster a culture where design is viewed as central to product success.

You will largely own both the design and a meaningful portion of the implementation for a cloud-hosted offering. Experience in data interfaces, especially business intelligence, SQL, and data exploration interfaces, is a major advantage.

We value curiosity, humility, ambition, and designers who understand the technical underpinnings of data systems and can implement their own designs. This is a full-time, hybrid position based out of our Oakland, CA or Denver, CO offices, with two in-office days each week for collaboration.

What You'll Do

  • Own the end-to-end design strategy and execution for key areas of the product, delivering creative solutions while proactively identifying future improvements and opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering stakeholders to shape roadmaps and product direction, align design strategy with business goals, and drive user-centered work from concept through release.
  • Act as a clear and opinionated advocate for user experience, pushing for strong UX principles and ensuring the user perspective remains present in product decisions.
  • Use strong communication and storytelling to build trust, explain design rationale in terms of business value and technical feasibility, and align teams around a coherent product vision.
  • Promote design excellence by mentoring others, giving actionable feedback, and helping establish stronger design practices, process, and quality standards across the team.
  • Conduct and apply user research to better understand technical users, uncover pain points, and validate solutions through feedback and testing.
  • Deliver with urgency and resilience in ambiguous environments, unblocking problems quickly while maintaining a high standard for craft and usability.

Skills We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in end-to-end product design, including significant experience designing data-heavy, complex, technical, or developer-oriented SaaS/B2B products.
  • Extensive AI tool and development experience.
  • Proven track record of leading major design initiatives.
  • Proven track record of mentoring and elevating other designers.
  • Exceptional product design skills across user research, UX and interaction design, information architecture, and high-fidelity prototyping.
  • Strong systems-thinking ability, with the judgment to simplify highly technical workflows and navigate ambiguity effectively.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain design decisions to engineers, product managers, and executives.
  • Comfort balancing strategic vision with practical, hands-on execution.
  • Experience in data integration, analytics, developer tools, or adjacent technical domains is strongly preferred.
